There may be worse to come but at this stage Saturday, April 12, 2014 must go down as the blackest day in the proud history of the Blaketown Rugby Club.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was the day that a Kiwi team with player-coach Dan Tauwhare, displaying skills light years ahead of anyone in the opposition, led his team to a humiliating 54-10<\/strong> New Forrest Cup victory over a Blaketown side that was senior in name only, at Walker Park, Hokitika.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tauwhare was all class, using his skill and experience to easily unlock the brittle black defensive line, while scoring a try and adding four conversions in the process.<\/span>
\n He had plenty of support in a team that staked an early claim for overall 2014 West Coast rugby honours in ruthless fashion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Blaketown were humbled in the lineouts, bullied in the scrums and thrashed everywhere else, with Kiwi No 8 Neil Linklater, hooker Troy Tauwhare and lock Jeremy Muir leading the pack and the entire backline, enjoying the service from Dan Tauwhare and impressive halfback Jared Ferguson showing enterprise and cohesion in an eight-try rout.<\/span>
\n By contrast, Blaketown fumbled and bumbled their way through the match and were reduced to shuffling around with puzzled looks on their faces.<\/span><\/p>\n

On this performance, the blacks have some major mountains to climb if they plan to compete for honours later in the season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Linklater first got Kiwi on the scoreboard, falling on the ball after the scrum bulldozed the Blaketown pack back over their goal line. Shaun McLure converted and by half-time had scored a try himself and converted two of the other tries to come from Daniel Bishop, Troy Tauwhare and Peter Te Rakau.<\/span><\/p>\n

Further second-half tries to Dan Tauwhare, Brent McBride and Nick Muir, converted by Dan Tauwhare, were answered by one from Blaketown lock Adam Torrance, who was shunted over the line by team-mates after three successive penalties finally allowed the blacks to get close enough to threaten to score. Beau Cain kicked the conversion to go with an early penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Centre, Phil Thomson, made a handful of strong runs up the centre, but collectively and individually Blaketown were all well outplayed by their opposites.<\/span><\/p>\n
