Playing with only one reserve, three green players and an unpolished forward pack, they gave a stronger Kiwi side a real run for their money on their home ground in the first half before losing their mojo in the second half 34-16.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Despite an early penalty kick by Kiwi first five Sean McClure, South Westland did well to hold on and gain territory and possession with first five Cory Deans soon evening the score with a penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Soon enough neither side were gaining much territory before South wing Colin Scott broke the deadlock with a try, nudging the score up to 8-3 in the twenty-first minute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> But Kiwi weren&#8217;t going to let South have the lead when fullback Dale Green took advantage of a friendly kick to score under the posts, easily converted by McClure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> As usual South loose prop Ryan Kennedy put consistent pressure on the opposition in the rucks and repeated advances by South set lock Lucas Symington up for a try to put them ahead of Kiwi 13-10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> A successful penalty kick by Deans in the last few minutes of the first half looked to set South Westland up for their first victory in three games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Kiwi were disappointed with a controversial call by referee Jamie McGeady at the beginning of the second half which said Kiwi had knocked the ball forward on their own try-line, but made up for it when McClure scored under the posts by outmanoeuvring South&#8217;s back line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> The home team refused to be bested by their southern rivals and really picked up their game in the second half, with McClure scoring his second try and converting it in the fifty-fourth minute, with Kiwi gaining the lead 22-16.<br \/>\nWhat happened to South Westland? McClure&#8217;s second try seemed to be a turning point, and the southerners lost their spirit entirely in what could have been a smasher of a game for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Kiwi lock Tim Scadden only came into the game in the second half but took advantage of South&#8217;s lack of enthusiasm and scored a try from a breakdown near the line soon after McClure&#8217;s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Scadden was keen to prove his worth and managed a second try in the last minutes of the game, confirming what Souths had already resigned themselves to &#8211; defeat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Grey Valley and Marist may been drawn as a no result due to Valley Number 8 Marcus Young receiving a serious neck injury and having to be taken away by helicopter with only 16 minutes left on the game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Until that point Marist seemed to be on track for their first victory of the season, leading 20-17 against tough opponents who until now have retained their place at the top of the table.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"> Wests found it difficult to stave off an easy Blaketown victory 42-8 even on Wests&#8217; own home turf, especially since it seems they only managed to field 13 players on the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\">Results.- <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#990000;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:small;\"><strong>Kiwi 34<\/strong> (S McClure 2, T Scadden 2, D Green tries;
