After a highly successful return to the West Coast rugby fixtures list last season after a 17 year break, the Dittman Shield will again be at stake to prove Rugby supremacy between the Grey and Westland Districts, in the “Battle of the Bridge”

Last years fixture played in Ross, resulted in a win to the side north of the Taramakau, by 41-14 in a high intensity game, and this years game will again see this old rivalry that dates back to the 1920’s, resume for bragging rights.

The fixture will also be a further opportunity for players to impress the West Coast Heartland selectors who will be watching on keenly, as they look to identify talent for this seasons squad.

West Coast R.F.U chairman Colin Smith was expecting that after last years epic contest in Ross, that this game would now cement itself in the local rugby calendar, as not only a game players would want to be a part of, but that spectators would want to come along and support passionately.

“It is great to see one of the very important traditions of the past that we had lost over time returning”  Smith said.

The Grey District side will defend the Shield against the Westland District at Arthur Fong Park in Blaketown, this Saturday July 20th, at 2.45pm.
